A Vatican newspaper has forgiven the late English singer John Lennon for saying four decades ago that The Beatles were more popular than Jesus.
Interesting that Christians forgiving people should be newsworthy...

He was a creative man. And I think Lennon and Jesus would have some interesting conversations. I don't think they'd end up too far apart on some issues.
I always thought the claim they said they were bigger than Jesus was a bogus claim.
A number of Evangelical Christians I know have made a big deal about it.
Lennon didn't speak Hebrew though, and if Jesus existed he didn't speak English, though if he still exists he has had time to learn it.
The kind of bloke Lennon was would certainly get on fine with the kind of bloke we are told Jesus was, apart from all that religious guff.

If I remember correctly, which sometimes happens, a hack reporter asked Lennon if the Beatles were now bigger than Jesus. It wasn't something Lennon was about to claim; the words were put in his mouth. Not that it matters to him now, alas. He had more brains than the Vatican will ever have.
