Amnesty International is today publishing a major new report on the global arms trade. It comes ahead of an important UN meeting next month where member states will decide on whether to move work forward on an international Arms Trade Treaty. Some of you may recall that 153 countries voted in support of this in 2006 – with only the US voting against it.

Well – it’s crunch point again for the Arms Trade Treaty as next month’s discussions at the UN are about whether to press on with developing a Treaty or not – so it’s really important.

Amnesty’s stepping up the pressure by supporting a Control Arms Week of Action that’s happening in 63 countries around the world.

Here in the UK there's a report being released today flagging up how weapons are reaching volatile states and regions like Iraq, Burma and Darfur where they’re being used to fuel serious human rights abuses.

Does anyone want to make any predictions as to how much interest the media has in this story?

There's a great viral game from amnesty. Apparently the target to beat is 12. http://www.controlarms.org/en/games/catch-bombs

Needless to say, I'm rubbish at it.
