I like to think of myself as being highbrow. I like my music minimal, my films arty and my friends cultured.
So, why oh why have I fallen in love with the title track from Coldplay's new album Viva La Vida?
*shakes head*
What's wrong with me?

Also being the sad soul that I am who's interested in the various textual layers of a song... this Coldplay track is chock full of layers and references. (Which I've seen written up elsewhere as being a CEO complaining about no longer being in powers... people can be entertainingly stupid, eh?)
Plus Chris Martin isn't too hard on the eye.
It's not surprising that you like your music minimal and love that song. Musically it's half Phillip Glass (like much Coldplay) and half Motown. Lyrically it's half-sensible (like much Coldplay), but what's there is wry and neatly done. And leadership is a topical subject right now.
And as with all good Coldplay songs it's a pleasure to sing along with, but not to have stuck in your head for two days afterward. They're a pretty tight band, not as smart as they sometimes appear, but intuitive. They seem to struggle for variety but when they find it you get something like this.
Wow. Thanks for that comment. I kept nodding saying "Yes" at most of the punctuation points and then got to the end and said "Oh, YES! That's why...".
Thank you so much!

Ah, yes. That one got me too! I've never really been bothered by Coldplay, but Viva La Vida is quite magnificent
