This looks like a fascinating event run by Sojourners. They're an inspiring group of Christians who don't make me want to run for the hills.
I heard Jim Wallis speak eloquently at Greenbelt last year and a lot of what he says really makes sense. He also married to the Rev. Joy Carroll Wallis, the woman who is said to have inspired the character of the Vicar of Dibley.
I love that the candidates are talking about faith and values but aren't having to pander to the religious right. They're talking about issues that are informed by faith but aren't one of three issues: abortion, gay marriage and sex education. Hillary Clinton talks about the fact that you're more likely in America to die in a hospital if you're uninsured as being a "moral wrong".
It's fascinating to hear politicians talking about these things in these ways. We're waiting out the clock on Bush and Blair and I'm hoping that we can get some strong values leadership that doesn't involve selling out to the religious right.
